Topeka’s Finest Marching Bands Take Center Stage At Washburn University

My daughters are in a high school marching band back in Illinois. I try to make it to all of their performances. Now, I am excited to see what Topeka’s high schools have to offer.

The Capital City Marching Band Festival will take place Wednesday, October 10th at Yager Stadium on the campus of Washburn University. Gates open at 6 PM and the performances will begin at 6:30 PM and it costs $10 for adults and $5 for children and students with ID’s.

Eight area high schools will perform their best halftime performances, and they will be judged on musical performance, entertainment value and marching and maneuvering. Each band wins awards for Drum Majors, Color Guard, Percussion and Overall Band. Before the awards are given out, Washburn University will show off their excellence.

Here are the schools and times they will perform:

HIghland Park–6:30

Leavenworth–6:45

Topeka West–7:00

Seamen–7:15

Shawnee Heights–7:30

Buhler–7:45

Topeka HS–8:00

Washburn Rural–8:15

Washburn University–8:30

Awards–8:50

As a band parent, I can say that all of their performances will be exciting and fun to watch. The kids hard work and effort goes a long way. I hope that you can make time to see these kids perform.
