Race Against Breast Cancer 2021

The Race Against Breast Cancer celebrates 30 years of serving NE Kansans with no cost mammography services. They have paid for over 10,800 mammography services at no cost for northeast Kansan men and women in medical and financial need.
Their annual 5K run/walk fundraiser is a way to honor survivors and remember those who have lost their battle to this horrible disease.  This year it is on September 17 at Reynold’s Lodge at Lake Shawnee.  Their honorary chairs are four women from various walks of life who are breast cancer survivors plus the founder of the RABC 5K event.

The Race Against Breast Cancer, Inc. (RABC) began in 1991 as a community coalition whose mission is to confront the challenge of breast cancer in Shawnee County. The organization has grown into an independent registered 501C (3) not-for-profit corporation and to date has funded over 10,000 annual screening mammograms,  diagnostic mammograms and ultrasounds to those in need of financial assistance in northeast Kansas counties.   A volunteer board of directors consisting of community representatives, medical providers and hospital representatives oversees the corporation.  Their mission is “Improving health through education, access, early detection, screening, and breast health awareness.”

The RABC program funds screening/diagnostic mammograms for over 400 individuals in northeast Kansas each year and reaches hundreds more through community awareness and fundraising efforts. Breast cancer impacts not only women, but also their families, friends, workplace, and community.  Breast cancer does not discriminate based on gender and that is why the RABC program also pays for mammograms for men who have a medical and financial need for one.
