Ben Dandrea–a social studies teacher and athletic director at Hartford High School is our February Crystal Apple Winner!

It is my honor to nominate Ben Dandrea for the Crystal Apple Teacher of the Month award. As a high school social studies teacher and Athletic Director at Hartford High School, Mr. Dandrea consistently goes above and beyond in every role he serves. In the classroom, Mr. Dandrea brings social studies to life. He challenges students to think critically, engage in meaningful discussions, and understand the world around them in ways that extend far beyond a textbook. More importantly, he builds genuine relationships with his students. He takes time to know who they are, what they care about, and what their goals and dreams may be. Students feel seen, heard, and valued in his classroom, and that makes all the difference. Beyond academics, Mr. Dandrea is deeply invested in the success of students in all areas of their lives. Whether it is attending their extracurricular events, checking in on them during difficult times, or offering guidance about their future plans, he gives his personal time generously. His support does not end when the school day does. As Hartford High School’s Athletic Director, he demonstrates the same dedication and integrity. He works tirelessly to ensure programs run smoothly, athletes are supported, and coaches have what they need to succeed. He leads with fairness, encouragement, and a strong belief in the character-building power of athletics. Mr. Dandrea is also an incredibly supportive colleague. He encourages others, steps in wherever needed, and fosters a positive culture among staff. His leadership and attitude make Hartford High School a better place for students and educators alike. Simply put, Ben Dandrea exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding educator and leader. His commitment, compassion, and unwavering dedication to students make him more than deserving of the Crystal Apple Teacher of the Month award.
