This summer, the Topeka Civic Theatre is inviting audiences to relive the same day again and again—with laughter, music, and a touch of existential reflection—as it presents Groundhog Day: The Musical, running from July 5 to August 9, 2025.
Based on the beloved 1993 film starring Bill Murray, this stage adaptation features a book by the film’s original co-writer Danny Rubin and music and lyrics by the acclaimed Tim Minchin (Matilda the Musical). The story follows Phil Connors, a jaded big-city weatherman who finds himself trapped in a time loop, forced to relive February 2 in the small town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. What begins as a comedic nightmare slowly transforms into a journey of self-discovery and redemption.
This marks the first time Topeka Civic Theatre has produced Groundhog Day, and the production promises to be a standout in their 2025 season. With a large ensemble cast and a mix of humor, heart, and high-energy musical numbers, the show explores themes of personal growth, compassion, and the power of second (and third, and fourth…) chances.
Performance Schedule:
- Thursday evenings: Doors at 6:00 PM, curtain at 7:00 PM
- Friday & Saturday evenings: Doors at 6:00 PM, curtain at 7:30 PM
- Sunday matinees: Doors at 12:30 PM, curtain at 2:00 PM
Dinner and brunch options are available for select performances, making this a full evening (or afternoon) of entertainment.
