Scott Dual Language Magnet Elementary School Principal Ann Gorsuch DeMaranville has been named the November Crystal Apple Award winner from Majic 107.7. The Crystal Apple Award, sponsored by Prairie Band Casino, recognizes outstanding educators in the Topeka and Northeast Kansas area who go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of their students.
Mrs. DeMaranville has taught for five years, served as an Assistant Principal for three years, and is entering her third year as the Principal at Scott Dual Language Magnet Elementary School in Topeka.
A Kansas native, Mrs. DeMaranville grew up in Overland Park. She started taking Spanish in the third grade but transitioned into teaching algebra as a teaching assistant for the Kansas Program. At KU, she received Bachelor’s degrees in math & Spanish and a teaching license as a member of the “You Can Teach” program.
After a stint at Chase Middle School in Topeka, Mrs. DeMaranville went to Peru for nearly two years to teach English as a second language. From there, she returned to Topeka to teach dual languages for Topeka Public Schools.
Mrs. DeMaranville was nominated for the Crystal Apple Award by Jennifer Barnhart. In her nomination letter, Jennifer says, “(Mrs. DeMaranville) is loved by students, staff, and parents! She works endless hours and is an inspiration to all!”
