Majic 107.7 is honoring Women’s History Month by presenting the Crystal Apple Award to Heather Hoven, who leads the rainforest lab at Williams Magnet Science and Fine Arts School in Topeka. Heather is very knowledgeable and gave me a tour of her lab. She is doing wonderful things with her students, teaching them about the rainforest and other important topics.

During the tour, she showed me chicken eggs in an incubator waiting to hatch, and various animals like geckos and frogs, and even took me inside a gated area to see the birds up close (one of them flew by my ear and scared me!). Heather is doing wonderful things with her students and it was a pleasure to learn from her expertise.

It was because of Kasaralyn Blystone’s nomination letter that grabbed our attention as Heather was very attentive with her son.

Here’s an excerpt of her letter:

I’d like to nominate Heather Hoven! She is the rainforest lab teacher at Williams magnet science and fine arts school! Each and everyday she has something positive to say about my boys, especially my current 4th grader, who can struggle sometimes. She was intentional in developing a relationship with him. She is great at empowering him to be the best. He has a different outlook on lans because she made the choice to make him matter.

Because of Heather’s dedication to Williams Magnet Science and Fine Arts School, she will receive the following

  • A Crystal Apple Award with her name on it
  • A Prize Package from Prairie Band Casino and Resort
  • Also, Williams Magnet Science and Fine Arts School is in the running for a $1,000 donation that will be given away in January 2025.
