This has bee an amazing year for our local teachers, office administrators, principals, and coaches for our Crystal Apple Award and Majic 107.7 want to thank YOU our listeners for making this possible.

It is because of your emails that we find these local heroes who go far and beyond for their school, students, and communities and our last recipient fits the mold as we wrap up our 2023 calendar year.

Meet Katherine Valdivia or “Ms. V” as her students call her at McCarter Elementary here in Topeka. She is a special needs teacher and according to Kristi Michaud who is a special needs parent she has spoken very highly of Ms. V when it comes to her daughter Bella.

Here is a snippet of her email in regards to Ms. V:

My kids and I moved from Goodland, KS to Topeka KS looking to help her now 10 year old daughter who has mental illness. She has a lot of challenges in her life and has been thru a lot in her short life here on earth. We moved to Topeka for more resources for my daughter. When I enrolled Bella in school there was no room at the first school I was trying to get her in so they sent me to McCarter Elementary where Ms. Valdivia works at. From day one of knowing her she has been such an AMAZING person, teacher, advocate, friend, God sent miracle. She has a bright smile that lights up a room. Kids, adult, animals love her to pieces.

Because of Katherine’s dedication to students like Bella and McCarter Elementary we are going to award her with the following.

• A Crystal Apple Award with her name on it
• A Prize Package from Prairie Band Casino
• Also, McCarter Elementary is in the running for a $1,000 donation which will be given away in January 2024.
