Topeka and Shawnee County Ecycle Event This Weekend

Shawnee County and the City of Topeka are partnering once again to offer county residents an opportunity to dispose of their unused household electronic items. The fourth Topeka/Shawnee County E-Cycle event will last from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 14th, at the Kansas Expocentre. Kansas City-based Surplus Exchange is running the event free of charge for the City and County.

The first Topeka/Shawnee County E-Cycle event was held Sept. 26, 2015. Roughly 650 people came out, contributing 90,000 pounds of materials for recycling. The second, April 30, 2016, produced 75,000 pounds of materials.

Surplus Exchange will accept dozens of electronic items – anything that plugs into a wall or takes batteries – free of charge. CRT monitors and TVs will be accepted for $15-30, cash only. Accepted items range from desktop PCs, DVRs and televisions to 8-Tracks, printers and land-line phones. See our flyer for more information and a map of the event. They will then transport the items to its facilities for proper disposal, which involves removing any materials that can be hazardous to the environment or recycled.

Items NOT ACCEPTED include Used Batteries, Ballasts, VHS tapes, CDs, Smoke Detectors, Carbon Monoxide Detectors, Appliances and Light Bulbs.  For More Information: Call 785-368-4470 or Email [email protected]
